Rupture Discs

CDCHPXNon-Burst139Continental Disc Corporation is at the forefront of innovation in bursting disc technology.  CDC's unique approach to quality makes the reverse acting HPX disc an industry leading product for others to emulate.

What this means for you is that you not only get a state of the art and guaranteed 250,000 cycle (at 95% burst pressure) bursting disc, but taking advantage of these innovations helps to drive down your preventative maintenance and spares costs

HPXYou can see how this is achieved in the table below.

  • DISC SIZES HPX: 1” through 8” sizes; SANITRX HPX: 1” through 3” sizes
    DISC MATERIALS: 316 and 316L Stainless Steel, Nickel, MONEL®, INCONEL®, HASTELLOY® C
BURST PRESSURES: 10 psig to 1000 psig (0,689 barg to 68,9 barg)
MANUFACTURING RANGE: Zero, -5% and -10%
OPERATING RATIO: Choice of 90% or 95%
    SAFETY RATIO:

1 to 1 or less. If the rupture disc becomes damaged, it will relieve at or below the burst pressure

DURABILITY: Design tested for 250,000 cycles from full vacuum to 95% of burst rating
    DESIGN: Non-fragmenting, reverse acting, bubble-tight seal2
  • Performance and Versatility leads to Spares Cost Reduction

Due to its ability to complete 250,000 cycles, premature failures due to fatigue will be eliminated. What this means for you is that the range of spares you need to store on site can be drastically reduced ensuring that spares costs for bursing discs are kept to a minimum.

    • Existing tags can be grouped together so disc unit costs can be reduced
    • Changeout periods can be doubled resulting in 50% savings on MRO cost
    • Production Downtime is reduced
    • Storage costs and disposal costs are also reduced
  • Why is Bursting Disc reliability important?

Unlike conventional bursting discs, which merely comply with the ASME standards, CDC Bursing Discs, undergo rigorous 9 step Quality Assurance Testing Process well in excess of those required by the ASME standards.

If any tested disc fails testing the entire batch is rejected.  Because of this testing regime and the revolutionary CDC design features, these bursing discs can be guaranteed up to 250,000 pressure cycles at up to 95% of bursting pressure reducing both replacement costs and spares costs.  For example, the "simulated plant use test" is the only way to offer a guarantee that the disc will work for its selected application.  This test is unique to CSC.  The benefit to you is that you will not suffer premature bursts

Continental Disc rupture discs (bursting discs) utilize innovative, patented designs, the highest quality materials from traceable sources, and ISO 9001 manufacturing procedures performed by skilled craftsmen.

  • The SANITRX HPX Rupture Discs are semicircular, scored, reverse acting rupture discs designed specifically for applications in the pharmaceutical, food & beverage and biotech industries. Available in sizes 1 ½” to 4,” this rupture disc is available to fit between standard sanitary ferrules, NA CONNECT® flanges or SANITRX® fittings. SANITRX HPX rupture discs are shipped in sanitary, environmentally friendly, non-toxic packaging.

Common applications for the new SANITRX HPX® Rupture Discs product include: filters, autoclaves, bioreactors, process vessels, heat exchangers, storage & transport vessels, fermenters, clean steam piping, WFI vessels & piping, CIP & SIP skids and piping, lyophilizers (freeze drying), and mixing, drying, granulating equipment.

Features of the new SANITRX HPX® Rupture Disc include extreme cycling durability (up to 250,000 cycles), choice of 90% or 95% maximum recommended operating ratio, and precision scoring on the vent side of the rupture disc dome, which assures optimum cleanability and improves rupture disc performance.
